The name Angola comes from the title Ngola of the kings from Ndongo, an important African kingdom, around the 15th Century and  existed until 1671 in todays region of Luanda .
The first time the name was used was by Portuguese sailors, who landed on the African coast and established a stone cross of the appropriation for the Portuguese king. Angola has been locked in a voilent civil war for 40 years this has now ceased and at the present moment is stable and peaceful.
