Located in North Africa near Morocco , Algeria was always a good holiday choice with most of the country covered by the Sahara it was truly a unique destination to visit. This however has changed in 1992 when civil war broke out which lasted over 10 years. The situation has improved a little over the last couple of years and limited access in places such as southern Sahara can be obtained. Due to tourists being abducted in 2003 there are risks involved and it is not advisable to travel alone and trips cannot be made without a vehicle. Tassili N'Ajjer and Hoggar regions are both Unesco-listed, tribal culture and to see them you wouldn't know that any trouble was going on. This fascinating country does offer little in the way of getting around and where you can go but to see any part will not dissapoint.
